Metis Floral Style Paint Night

Learn about plants and their medicines through a “how to” Metis floral style drawing session with Jaime Morse, Michif from northern Alberta. Participants* will receive materials required to design their creation from the Handmade Drum workshop, or a print-at-home PDF stencil.

Register for this workshop and all required materials will be delivered to your door, or purchase your own materials and follow along with the video instruction. This event will be available for on-demand viewing following the live presentation June 17.

Jaime is Otipemisiwak/Nehiyaw (Métis/Cree) from Lac La Biche in northern Alberta and Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement where some of the world’s best Métis and First Nation jiggers come from. Jaime is recognized as an international award winning dancer across the Métis homelands. Jaime was the recipient of the Emerging Aboriginal Artist Award from the Ontario Arts Council for her work in visual arts both contemporary and traditional as well as dance. Jaime comes from a talented family including her Grandmother (Nanoosh), who was a well- loved dancer, mother, musician and Fisher Woman. At the age of 35, Nanoosh was murdered in St. Albert, Alberta. Through Jaime’s company called Indigenous Walks, participants learn about the social, political and cultural issues from an Indigenous perspective, including the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. The goal of Indigenous Walks is to provide the public with an opportunity to become aware of who Indigenous people are in a safe, interesting and caring environment Tapwe Talks is a recent work by Jaime.
